Spectacled Monarch

Spectacled Monarch
Symposiarchus trivirgatus albiventris

Iron Range National Park, Cape York, Queensland, Australia

October 2012

My best shot of a Spectacled Monarch. Very aloof in the shadows and wearing duel rings. He kept his back to me and I just got this glimpse of the face.

There are three races in the rain forests and mangroves along the north eastern Australian coast and this, albiventris is the most northern.

Some Black Cockatoos

Palm Cockatoo

This post is for Noushka who recently expressed a love for Australia's magnificent black cockatoos.

These are only poor record shots of three species, but still they are wild records that are important encounters for me.

It seems whenever I find them they are into the sun.

Lovely

Lovely Fairy-wren

female

Iron Range National Park, Queensland, Australia

My only pic of a Lovely Fairy-wren in far north-east Queensland. Notice her ring on the right foot?

They are very shy and difficult to get close to. This image was originally photographed in a very dark area at a very hight ISO then processed with a noise reducing filter.
